We’re Hiring: Veteran Family Program Coordinator

This full-time temporary position will start immediately and end on March 31, 2024, with the possibility of extension.

The Veteran Family Program Coordinator assists families with relocation and transition after release from military or RCMP. They assess clients’ situations to provide information, assistance, emotional support, and/or referrals. They act as a community service Subject Matter Expert (SME) for families with intricate needs, working in collaboration with the MRFC network, local community agencies, and external partnership agencies to ensure families receive the required supports. They educate local community organizations on military family lifestyle and perform outreach/warm-line calls to MRFC clients and family members as required.

Veteran Family Program Coordinators develop, deliver, and evaluate programs and services that are not offered by local community services and/or assist in the development of services through local partnerships. They support self-help group development through facilitation, presentations, and information sharing, and engaging clinical support for clients as required. They assist with the implementation and evaluation of activities. They research and maintain local community resources, services, and program details.

Responsibilities

Foster a positive relationship with co-workers and volunteers therefore respecting their commitment to MFRC programs and activities;

  • Adhere to the team agreement;
  • Participate in MFRC staff workshops, training, and program planning meetings, to assist in creating a comprehensive overall MFRC program; and
  • Act as an ambassador by promoting a positive community image of the MFRC.
  • Assess clients’ situations to provide information, assistance, and/or referral, to navigate the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) lifestyle challenges;
  • Provide and/or support the development of awareness/educational sessions, briefings, and resources pertaining to change management and transitioning into a civilian community;
  • Provide information and referral services for the support and/or counsel of family members in crisis or imminent crisis;
  • Establish contact with medically releasing CAF members, medically released members, and their families to provide a general overview of the services of the MFRC;
  • Assist medically releasing CAF members, Veterans, and their families in their navigation of, and access to, relevant community programs and services;
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate agencies/organizations as needed and provide follow-up;
  • Perform outreach/warm-line calls to MFRC families as required;
  • Develop and maintain strong community partnerships with both civilian and military organizations and stakeholders, including the coordination of quarterly meetings for these partners; Support self-help group development through facilitation, presentation, and/or information sharing, engaging clinical support as required;
  • Assist with the implementation and evaluation of activities to provide information to MFRC families;
  • Conduct community orientations, information sessions, and briefings; and
  • Compile data and report program and service gaps to Executive Director.
  • Responsible to stay informed of all offerings of the PEI MFRC;
  • Secure confidential information concerning clients or other employees of the MFRC, or the business affairs or the financial positions of the MFRC;
  • Adhere to the MVFSP’s Professional Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, and the MFRC Privacy Code;
  • Attend all mandatory information sessions and workshops;
  • Update and regularly monitor the shared calendar;
  • Assist in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of all common areas;
  • Exchange information, ideas and provides assistance to enhance MFRC programs and to solve challenges;
  • Ensure Executive Director is advised of any issues and trends that may impact the MFRC;
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Executive Director; and
  • Ensure that the minimum requirements as set out by MVFSP are maintained.
  • Educate local community organizations on the unique aspects of the military family life;
  • Contribute to maintaining physical and digital community information;
  • Contribute articles and information for inclusion into the MFRC newsletter; and
  • Plan and implement materials and activities to promote MFRC and community-based services to local MFRC families.
  • Liaise with community service providers to identify local community programs, services and activities that meet the needs of MFRC families;
  • Ensure all activities operate within budget guidelines;
  • Document and maintain client information and services within Customer Relationship Management system;
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community groups, support agencies, schools, and other organizations to enhance service delivery to MFRC families, and record them in the Customer Relationship Management program;
  • Provide input into budget development and financial reporting related to service area.

Qualifications

Education and Certifications/Licenses:

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Social Services, Mental Health, Human Services, or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience;
  • Several years of experience in human/family services sector and familiar with providing front line support; and
  • Certifications/licenses: CPR & Standard First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Intervention, and Crisis Intervention.
  • Drivers’ License
  • Lived experience with the military lifestyle is a strong asset.
  • English essential, bilingual preferred.
