In 2020, Troy Arsenault’s family moved to PEI after Troy retired from Regular Force and became a Reservist. His Reg Force career was primarily based in Halifax, where he underwent a number of deployments. As he was away often, Troy was already familiar with the MFRC and all the services it provides.
TA: The MFRC has helped my family out a lot, being on heavily deployment units my whole career. They’ve been there to support my family and help them out while I’m away. It’s important for me that when I go away, my family will be looked after. A lot of times when you’re sailing, you don’t have access to regular email or phone or anything like that so you’re always wondering what’s going on back home. if something pops up, it’s nice to know they’ll be looked after.
Troy was already familiar with the PEI MFRC because—even though he was based out of Halifax when he went on deployment—his parents reside here, and so, the PEI MFRC checked in on them while Troy was away. So when the family moved to PEI, they reached out to the PEI MFRC to connect.
Since moving here, the family has taken advantage of the summer camp funding opportunity, a partnership with True Patriot Love Foundation, and they look forward to joining in on more of the social events.
MA: As a military family, I do find it’s a bit different living on PEI now that he’s not sailing….to know that they [the PEI MFRC] also support him—it means a lot to know someone is there.
