Reservist Profile: John & Nikki MacDonald

LCdr John MacDonald and PO2 Nikki MacDonald have been a military family for 7 years…

 

Please tell us about your family.

John and Nikki MacDonald are both members of HMCS Queen Charlotte. LCdr John MacDonald is the current Commanding Officer and PO2 Nikki MacDonald works as a Snr FSA. Together, they have two children: Dean (5) and Ally (1).

What does being a Reservist mean to you and your family?

We enjoy being able to support our community, province, or country as best we can in times of need.

How many days/month do you work as a Reservist?

John: 120 days/year
Nikki: 365 days/year

Tell us about a few challenges about being a military family that you are experiencing or have experienced in the past.

-Childcare
-Being away from family for long periods
-Working extra hours during weekends and evenings

 

We’d love to hear about some of the joys you experience being a military family…

Coming together with other military families and having our children interact with families like ours. It’s so great to see coworkers outside the workplace with their families. Having the MFRC gives our kids extra activities and events they might not have or attend is a great bonus for them. Those memories of fun days outweigh the ones missing mommy and daddy.

In your own words, what does it mean to be a military/Veteran family on PEI

You have a second family to rely on.
