The spirit of the season doesn’t necessarily descend upon us; sometimes it takes some orchestration. It’s a little like a symphony, with each instrument playing its own part, lovely (albeit quiet) on its own. Add to that, another instrument…and another…and another until each complimentary tone blends to create a harmonious sound that lifts your heart!
Well, last evening was a little like that symphony made up of different—yet special—parts. We had some committed volunteers looking for a “feel good” project, family members who were missing loved ones right now, a generous community who wanted a way to show appreciation for our women & men in uniform, and the MFRC who knew how to put all these pieces together. The outcome was an evening shared in the assembly of holiday gift packages destined for CAF personnel from Prince Edward Island who are far away from home.
The instruments in this symphony included the following:
- MFRC volunteers
- A 4th year UPEI student who embraced the idea and went into the community to find contributions to the project
- Parents of currently deployed CAF members
- Local businesses willing to contribute to these gift packages: Indigo, Murphy’s Pharmacy, Vogue Optical, Tim Hortons, David’s Tea, Honibe, RBC,Saltscapes, The Guardian, The PEI Brewing Company, Girl Guides of Canada:Stratford, Edward & Joyce Prout, Dr. Kirby Bruce, and Dr. Scott Mollins
Individually, the parts may have seemed small, but collectively, we made beautiful music. Our audience will be the men and women who receive these gifts filled with love and kind, caring thoughts from the Maritimes.
We encourage all of you to play your small part—be an instrument of love—and join with other like-minded souls to create your own joyful sound. It will lift your heart. That is where the spirit of the season lives. Blessings to all and Peace on Earth!
