SUMMARY:National Peacekeepers' Day
DESCRIPTION:National Peacekeepers’ Day is marked every year on August 9 to honour and remember all Canadians who have served\, or who are currently serving\, in support of peace operations around the world.  This year it is exceptionally significant as it marks 20 years of municipal and provincial police participation in international peace operations. \nIt is a double anniversary because ten years ago P.E.I. peacekeepers plus local military members\, police\, and firefighters assembled in Boulder Park\, directly across Grafton Street from the Daniel J. MacDonald Building\, for the dedication of the new Service Fountain.  The Fountain was dedicated to Islanders whose service to their fellow citizens places them in potentially life-threatening circumstances. \nA parade and service will take place at The Fountain on August 9\, beginning at 6:50PM.
